SEO and Meta Tags

by

Prashant K ShuklaBy: Prashant K ShuklaEvery search engine uses it’s own, very specific algorithm to index the websites. All major search engines keep updating their search algorithms quite frequently to give their searchers the best searching experience. Your website’s place in the search result pages depends on it’s calculation from the algorithm it follows. These algorithms are not changing everyday but are evolving into more intelligent and accurate. Yet, the major focus is on the Meta tags of the site. These Meta tags are not visible when someone browses your web page but the search engines read these Meta tags alone and decide the place of a web page on its search result pages. It does so by finding the relevance of the Meta tags within them and with its contents. The most important Meta tags are the title, description and keywords. The first thing a search engine looks for is to find a relevance in these meta tags by looking at the keywords used in them and secondly it looks the relevance of the keywords used in these meta tags with the contents of the page. The Title TagThe title is the most important Meta tag of your website. This is the first thing shown on a web page and this is visible to both your visitor and most importantly to the search engine. That’s why it has to be given the utmost importance while search engine optimization is the consideration. It is always depicted on the left top bar of in the browser window. This tag should include the most relevant keyword about your business. If the most relevant keywords are used in here, your web site will sure get a boost in a search. Most websites use their company name in the title which in fact, is not something desirable. Because, nobody usually searches for a company name unless it is very well known or some giant multinational. The perfect title tags should be something between 10-70 characters. It is not so that one can not put a longer title but the search engine would ignore the longer part of the title. The Title tag should be written for the visitors (people searching for your business or services) first and the search engines second. This should be such as to motivate a click and obviously to favor the search engine indexing too.Different title tags should be assigned to each page of your website containing its own keywords that relate to that specific page.Description tagThe description tag should be written in such way that it speaks about the website contents in just one or two sentences. It should be short and clear that your visitors get a close idea about your site by reading this in a short time. The description tag should be 100 to 200 characters long. The Meta description tag also has a great role in the SEO of your page. This tag displays the information at a search engine result page (SERP) after a search is performed by a user. So, this should be such as this puts the concise summary of your page. Most search engines truncate longer Description. Remember this while writing this tag.Same as above every page should have a different description tag in accordance with the contents it holds. This tag has quite some effect on the ranking of your site in Search Engine results. The Search Engine will read your description tag and will check if the keywords or search terms match your title tag and content of your web site. My suggestion is to take the first sentence or two of the contents from your web page and use that for the Meta description content.Include the most relevant sentences matching with the page contents in description tag instead of stuffing the tag with more keywords. Remember that the Meta Description Tag of a web page must not look just a bunch of keywords, but should contain an informative and concise summary of your web page. Keywords TagThe most heavily sought technique in Search Engine Optimization process is Keyword optimization. But at the same time if keywords are too often repeated, chances are that the site gets marked out as “”spam””. However, if your target keyword are not included enough, its ranking will not be optimized. So, with present algorithms which are really smart and intelligent include only those relevant keywords you want to target and make sure that these are included in the contents too.Use variations of a keyword like watch, watches, wrist watch etc. They are slightly changed keywords and yet don’t render any feeling to the search engine for their being repeated in the tag.Geographical information (name of the country, city or place) may be used in the keywords. Sometimes it plays a great role when a search is made for a location based business. Or, even brand names, model name of a product can be used in this tag. That also helps when a search is made for a specific product model or brand.Search engines give different weights to the keywords according to their positions in HTML tags used in the content. For example if a keyword is used in this tag which is present in Heading Tag also has more weight particularly when the same is in H1 tag.Write your Alt tags of the images and the text links being used in the page such that it includes at least one keyword from the keyword tag. But, remember the same should look just relevant with the image or the hyper link for which it has been written. The content should have included all of your keywords. The aggregate keyword density (all the keywords used in keyword tag) should be between 20% to 30% but not less than 5% to the best optimized results. However, Density for a single keyword should not be less than 2% and higher than 6%. The best is about 5% with the major keywords and 2% with subsequent keywords. The Meta tags should be fine tuned with the contents and a good relevance is brought about between themselves with a perfect balance between the target audience and the search engines. These Meta tags have been used really very un-carefully by the spammers, if we commit to use them methodically with the due respect, I hope, we should be able to create ever increasing web traffic on our sites.

Local Community Websites

Wednesday, March 28th, 2018

By James Warren

Hi, my name is James Warren and i would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of my experiences with my latest project.

I am building a website which is targeted to the local people of the town that i live in. The town is called Sudbury. It is in the county of Suffolk in the UK.

YouTube Preview Image

The purpose of the site isn’t to attract people to the area or to inform people about any of the features that the town has to offer. It is all about communicating within the local community. It is my aim for the people of Sudbury to become regular users of the website. I want them to find information about local events and read reviews about the restaurants in the town and to keep visiting the website on a regular basis.

Why do you want people to keep visiting?

It is my aim to sell advertising space to local businesses and traders. This along with Google Adsence and a few Affilliate links should generate a half decent income. So with the people of Sudbury coming back time and time again, i will be in a good position to put premiums on advertising space.

The website is progressing well and i hope to launch it very soon. I will have to do a lot of marketing in the town to really promote it and get people to actually visit the site and hopefully through word of mouth and some decent press releases, i should be able to establish a good following. What do you think? Is i something that could work in your opinion? Why not have a look at the site and give some feedback.

Tuesday, February 27th, 2018

By Nelson Berry

Have you ever met one of those insanely successful people who make quite a fortune out of blogging? If you keep a blog but isn t making money out of it, that means you re missing out on a lot of money and wasting time otherwise spent earning a fortune. Fortunately, there is a way to make all your activities profitable.

The difference between those who earn money through blogging and those who blog for leisure is the attitude. Online moneymaking techniques using blogs are all over the Internet and are available for anyone to take advantage of. All you need is the patience and determination to actually learn how to use blogging as a moneymaker. Some bloggers know that they can make money blogging, but they don t spend any effort learning how to do so and also don t try hard enough. So even if your get a lot of traffic and has a lot of potential, if you don t decide to really make money out of it, then you won t.

What does this decision entail?

1. Do the legwork.

Once you decide to start blogging for money, you need to do research on how various pro-blogging techniques work. Familiarize yourself with concepts such as SEO and proper use of keywords to get more publicity and traffic, and learn how to use Google Adsense and affiliate programs. Track the performance of your blog using tools such as Google Analytics, and take advantage of cyberspace trends. Actively look for advertisers who can pay you for ads on your site. In short, make a serious effort to build your blog.

If you want to earn money from blogging but you don t give your blog the time of the day, then it won t get you anywhere.

2. Talk to pro-bloggers.

Look for professional bloggers you know and get as much advice from them as you can. Surround yourself with pro-bloggers who display a positive and motivating attitude towards blogging for money; you ll see, that attitude will definitely rub off on you.

3. Make a name online.

Blog about relevant and interesting topics that will be of help to online visitors. Always provide credible and noteworthy information, so that readers will keep coming back to your blog. If you find the right topic and provide all the good information, you will be able to make a name for yourself online. Soon you will discover just how lucrative cyberspace is. You might find yourself getting invited to actual events and speaking opportunities like some probloggers do.

4. Maintain a positive attitude.

You won t be able to make money successfully from blogging if you have a negative attitude towards it. Make sure you maintain a positive attitude about what you do. Think of your activity as something worth doing, something that actually helps others and benefits you. This way, you will be continuously motivated to keep going. On the other hand, if you keep on blogging but at the same time, question the value of your efforts and doubt your ability to make money out of what you do, you definitely won t succeed in blogging for money.

One way of keeping a positive attitude is to listen to subliminal messages that instill rewarding and affirmative beliefs and thought patterns in your subconscious, so all your actions and behaviors will be positively influenced. Focus on messages such as:

I attract money.

My actions are profitable.

I enjoy blogging for money.

I am a professional and profitable blogger.

Making money from blogging is not an overnight venture, but if you keep going, you will eventually build your blog s credibility and readership base, and the rest will follow.

The U.S. Housing Market: The Real Story

Saturday, February 10th, 2018

Submitted by: Michael Lombardi

Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned capitalism?

Several days ago, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court voided the foreclosure of two homes by Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE/WFC) and U.S. Bancorp (NYSE/USB), because the court says the banks failed to show they owned the mortgages at the time of foreclosure.

You have to wonder if it is all a conspiracy to slow down the foreclosure of U.S. homes where the lenders are in default.

After all, three different levels of governments are investigating home foreclosures:

YouTube Preview Image

All 50 state attorney generals are reviewing the foreclosure process and will not have their investigations complete until the spring. The FHA (Federal Housing Administration) is examining whether lenders are using all legal options available to them before foreclosing on government-insured loans. Then there is a branch of the Justice Department (Executive Office for U.S. Trustees) that is doing its own examination of lenders and their law firms in respect to homeowners bankruptcy filings.

U.S. home foreclosure activity fell 21% in November from October, according to an Obama Administration report but they are not falling because the housing market is getting better. On the contrary, foreclosures have declined because lenders have dramatically slowed their pace of foreclosure in light of all the government investigations.

Let s call a spade a spade: If I am a bank and I lend you money on your home, and you are not paying your mortgage to me, I should have the right to come in and take the home back due to non-payment after I ve given you written warning to make good on your payments. That s how real estate has always worked. That s how capitalism works and how banks have always worked in their lending practices.

I m reading all kinds of reports that say homeowners are missing their monthly payments on their mortgages because they have caught on that lenders have curbed their foreclosures.

I wonder if it is all a ploy to get lenders to modify their mortgages (take haircuts) as opposed to foreclosing.

Is someone so smart at the White House that they said: Hey banks, you started this mess by lending people money to buy houses they could not afford! Now we are going to make it hard for you to foreclose on your mortgages, so go back and work with the homeowners to reduce the amount of their mortgages to market value. I d have to call that quite brilliant if indeed this is the plan.

But we need to respect how capitalism works. That is what America is all about. Regardless of whether a bank takes a haircut on a mortgage or forecloses, they are still taking a loss that shareholders will have to endure.

In the immediate term, stalling foreclosures will move housing prices slowly up, as less home supply hits the markets. Most home real estate auctions I follow are showing prices actually rising. Some neighborhood homes are selling at lender auctions today at five percent to 10% more than last year because less supply is on the market.

But eventually the piper needs to be paid. The housing market cannot have a meaningful bottom (or bounce in price) until all the foreclosures are washed out of the system. According to a report in The New York Times (1/9/11), More than four million households are in serious default and vulnerable to losing their homes. Until these homes come onto the market, a black cloud will hang over the U.S. housing recovery.

Small Business Loans: Tips For Obtaining A Small Business Loan

Saturday, November 25th, 2017

By Dee Power

When a small business needs capital, a small business loan from a bank comes first to mind. Banks want to lend to companies that have a record of profitable operations, that generate cash flow sufficient to repay the loan, and that have enough collateral or assets to secure the loan. A clean credit record for both the company and the principals of the company is mandatory; few late payments, and no bankruptcies or foreclosures.

Most start-up companies do not quality for traditional bank financing unless the founder has the personal net worth and income to guarantee the loan. The loan then is a really a personal loan to the founder rather than a business loan.

Check with the bank that you have your business accounts with for the person who handles commercial or business loans. You will be asked to provide financial statements for both you and your company for the last several years as well as tax returns. You may also be asked to provide documentation as to the accounts you have, both personal and business. A business plan will be required and you will most likely have to complete the bank’s own loan package.

You will have to personally guarantee the business loan, which means any and all assets you have will be pledged to pay off the loan if your business doesn’t. If you live in a community property state, your spouse must also personally guarantee the loan.

YouTube Preview Image

First Tip: The acquisition of a bank loan takes time, as with any form of financing. Begin the process of finding a loan several months, at least, in advance of when your company needs the capital.

Second Tip: In looking for a bank loan, you are really approaching a vendor (the bank) to see if you want to buy his product (money). Don’t approach the situation like a starving peasant who desperately needs food (funds) to stay alive. The bank needs you or it has no revenue (except of course for the exorbitant amount of interest it earns on VISA cards).

Cash (flow) Is King

Before approaching a banker about a loan, it is imperative to prepare a detailed cash flow forecast to determine how much capital you need, and how and when the loan will be repaid. To the banker, the cash flow forecasts–and historical financial statements–are extremely critical. The venture capitalist has lofty goals for his relationship with your company–to earn a fantastic rate of return over a variable length of time. He may cash out of the business in 3 years, maybe 5, but in any case, he wants to create great wealth out of his participation in your company. The banker has more modest goals–to get his money back with a specified rate of interest–but he is much more concerned about timing–getting the interest and principal back from you at prearranged points in time–and in protecting his original investment. The banker, too, responds to forecasts that are realistic and containing detailed assumptions. Just as the venture capitalist tires of reading Business Plans with ridiculous or unsubstantiated projections, the banker appreciates well-thought out numbers grounded in reality.

Tell The Banker About Your Business

You also must prepare a Business Plan-type profile on your company to enable the banker to better understand your business. The Business Plan is your marketing tool again, just as it was with the venture capitalist. It also shows the banker your ability to plan and organize your company–skills that will enhance your ability to pay him back.

Follow these tips and you’ll be successful in obtaining a small business loan.
