A cozy home is one that welcomes you after a long day and makes you feel warm and safe. Cozy may mean something different for each homeowner, but the bottom line is you want to feel at home and comfortable when in your space. When designed and decorated properly, you will love your home and feel like it is an escape from the trials and challenges of the outside world. Those who visit you will also feel a sense of well-being and warmth when in your home. It will take time, but creating a warm and welcoming home will be well worth the effort. Begin the process by completing big renovation projects like kitchen remodeling and installing kitchen cabinets. This is one of the most important rooms in your home, so make sure it is comfortable and functional before completing any other projects.
Using soft materials and textiles in your home is a great way to add that warm, cozy feeling you are after. Fabrics that make you want to sit down and stay for some time are the best options for homeowners. Sometimes uncomfortable fabrics look great, but when it comes to use, they are no good. Sitting on a hard, scratchy couch is no fun for anyone. Instead, choose fabrics for your upholstery, drapes and accessories that are soft and comfortable. The smell in your home makes a big difference when it comes to an inviting atmosphere. When you enter your home, you want to be welcomed by the fragrance. Each person’s home will have a distinct smell and you want yours to be pleasant and welcoming. Cover up harsh cooking odors by using candles that has a fragrance and essential oils. Keep things clean and bad odors will be neutralized. Determine how you want to add a pleasing smell to your home. Scented oils and candles are a great solution, but you can also use a variety of potpourri and other items to add a pleasing fragrance in your home.
Decorate your home with family photos and art that makes you feel good. You should have personal images surrounding you and making you feel comfortable and safe. Take time putting together a collection of images that welcome you and truly display who you are and what your history is. Art need not be anything fancy, but it should be a reflection of your personal taste and style. The items in your home should make you feel happy when you look at them, so if any photos or images aggravate you or make you feel unhappy; remove them from your space.
Finally, do your best to keep things organized and clean but it is okay if it is not perfect. Homes that look as if they are from a magazine photo shoots are not going to have that warm and welcoming feeling. Your home should be organized and clean, but you should feel comfortable in the space and others should be able to recognize that the space is lived in.
