Nelliyamapathy is a hilly region in Palakkad district of Kerala, India. It is one of the destinations for tourists. It is situated at a high altitude. Many people come here to enjoy the pleasant weather of the region. During summer season they come here to escape the heat of the low lying plains of the surrounding region. There are several estates cultivating tea, coffee, oranges, pepper and cardamom. These hills are very far away from the rush and chaos of city life. Nelliyampathy can be reached from Kochi international airport. It is nearly four hour drive from Kochi. To reach this place it is sufficient to travel along the Kochi- Palakkad National Highway till a town called Vadakkumchery. From here there is a deviation towards Nenmara town. There is another road from Nenmara to Nelliyampathy. From here it takes only one hour dive to reach the hills. One the way there is a dam called Pothundy. This a beautiful place to halt. There is also a small park near the dam. From this dam it is a steep uphill drive to the hills. This route is surrounded by forests on all sides. On the way there are several view points where you can halt your vehicle and have birds eye view of the dam and paddy fields of the plains. Sometimes it is possible to see wild animals on the way. Monkeys are commonly seen. Wild elephants are also sometimes seen during trip. Other animals such as deer, leopard and bear are very rarely seen.

Places to see in Nelliyampathy,

Orange and Vegetable Farm: This is located beside the main road after reaching Nellyampathy. There are several orchid plants and vegetables cultivated in enclosed poly houses. There are also plenty of orange trees in the farm. There is also retail outlet selling products from the farm. Most visitors purchase some products from these outlets.

Seethargundu: There is a privately owned estate cultivating tea, pepper, rubber, cardamom and coffee. Organic cultivation without using pesticides is practiced in this area. There is a car park within the estate. Close to the parking area it is possible to walk uphill and reach the highest spot in the estate. This view point is a cliff. From the top of the cliff it is possible see the plains of Palakkad district from a very high altitude.

Tea Estates: Another important place is the tea estates. The mist covered tea estates are an important location to be seen.

Accommodation: There are several accommodation facilities in Nelliyampathy. If there are plans to stay one night, it is necessary to book rooms in advance before reaching the place. It is necessary to book food also in advance as there are very few restaurants in this place.
